Instructional Staff
A 2 to 3 year term of secondment to SFSC is accepted by Fire Services as operational experience and is an excellent opportunity for individuals to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in Fire Service training and operations. Instructors who are not already qualified are given the opportunity to gain qualifications in most of the following areas:
- Workplace assessors ('A' units - ex D32/D33)
- Breathing Apparatus Instructor
- Road Traffic Collision Instructor'
- IOSH Managing Safely
It is anticipated that the introduction of short-term secondments of 3 to 6 months will give the long-term secondees the opportunity to attend other core progression courses at the Fire Service College. This will enable Services to include secondees in their Fire Service College courses planning process that will be mutually beneficial to the individual, their Service and SFSC.
Scottish Government Personnel
The SFSC Instructional staff are supported by a team of Scottish Government Civil Service personnel who have a significant role in the management of the College. The functional areas staffed include course administration, finance, engineering, facilities management, audiovisual department and other support staff.
SFSC is an ideal environment in which civil service staff can develop their skills and knowledge relating to the Scottish Government procedures and Fire Service training related matters.
